The iPhone 13 was one of the most well-rounded iPhones ever when it launched, and today it is available refurbished for a fraction of its original retail price. But is it still a recommendation in 2026, or already a compromise? The honest check.
The iPhone 13 runs the A15 Bionic, a chip Apple kept using in other devices for years, and for good reason. WhatsApp, Instagram, Maps, banking, photos, streaming: everything runs smoothly, and even more demanding apps don't make the device break a sweat. Unless you are into hardcore gaming, you will hardly notice a difference from much newer models in daily use.
The dual camera with sensor-shift stabilisation takes outstanding photos in daylight and good ones at night. What's missing is the telephoto lens of the Pro models and the 48-megapixel resolution of the newer generations. For social media, family photos and holidays the camera is easily enough; ambitious photographers should go for a newer model or a Pro.
Apple typically supports iPhones with iOS updates for five to seven years after release. For the iPhone 13 (launched autumn 2021) that means: the update supply is approaching its final third. Realistically you still have several years of security updates ahead of you, but if you plan to use the device for five more years, an iPhone 14 or 15 is the more future-proof choice. Apple Intelligence does not run on the 13.
With a four-year-old model, battery health is everything. Only buy where the measured remaining capacity is stated; at remarket.ch it is listed on every device. From 85 percent you are in the green zone, and should the battery fade later, a battery swap at our workshop is quick and affordable.
In 2026 the iPhone 13 is the value pick for pragmatists: proven technology, a good camera, smooth everyday performance, minimal price. If you plan long-term, invest the difference in a newer model. You'll find both paths tested and with a 1-year warranty in our shop.
