Apple event: iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone Duo and what it means for your old iPhone

On 9 September Apple unveiled the new generation under the banner «Surprise and Shine»: iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max, the first foldable iPhone named iPhone Duo, plus Apple Watch Series 12, Watch Ultra 4 and AirPods 5. Here's the essentials in brief, and above all: what it means for your current iPhone.

What Apple unveiled

The iPhone 18 Pro and the 18 Pro Max get the new A20 Pro chip and a 48-megapixel main camera with a real, moving aperture. In everyday use, that means sharper portraits, better night shots, less editing afterwards. Storage now goes up to 1 TB, there are four new colours, including Glacier and Burgundy, and the Pro Max is said to manage up to 45 hours of battery life. What Apple doesn't shout about: the Pro models are getting pricier.

With the iPhone Duo, apps switch seamlessly from the small to the large display when you open it, no jump. The inner camera sits under the screen, and unfolded it's the thinnest iPhone Apple has ever built. Add to that IP68 protection, support for the USB-C Apple Pencil and at least 256 GB of storage.

When will the iPhone 18 Pro be available refurbished at remarket?

Honest answer: not on 18 September. A refurbished device only exists once someone hands their new iPhone back in, whether through trade-in, sale or return. For the foldable inner display of the Duo, we deliberately don't stock a screen protector: aftermarket films lift at the crease, as we've seen with other foldables. And what all the new models have in common: USB-C. Chargers, cables and power banks from Power & Cables work with every one of the new devices, whereas an old Lightning cable no longer does.

iPhone 17 Pro discontinued: the clever alternative

Because Apple is taking the iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max out of its lineup, soon you'll only be able to get these devices new from remaining stock. Apple Watch Series 12, Ultra 4 and AirPods 5
