iPhone 15 vs. iPhone 16: Is the Extra Cost Worth It?
The iPhone 16 is the more modern device, no question. But is it worth the premium over the iPhone 15, especially when both are available refurbished at a much lower price? We compare the points that matter in everyday use.
Design and controls
Visually, the two generations are very similar: same format, USB-C, Dynamic Island. The iPhone 16 adds two new controls: the Action Button, which on the 15 was reserved for the Pro models, and Camera Control, a touch-sensitive button for quick shooting and zooming. Handy, but not a reason to switch on its own.
Chip and performance
The iPhone 15 runs the A16 Bionic, the iPhone 16 the A18. The A18 is noticeably faster and above all built for Apple Intelligence; Apple's AI features only run on the 16 (and the 15 Pro models). For everyday use, social media, photography and navigation both chips are more than fast enough; the difference shows in demanding games and, of course, AI features.
Camera
Both have a 48-megapixel main camera that takes outstanding photos. The iPhone 16 arranges its lenses vertically (for spatial video) and offers faster access via Camera Control. Image quality is close between them; the biggest camera leap only comes with a Pro model with a telephoto lens anyway.
Battery
The iPhone 16 lasts somewhat longer than the 15, but in everyday use both comfortably get through the day. When buying used, the actual battery health matters more than the model: at remarket.ch the measured remaining capacity is listed on every device; from 85 percent you are in the green zone.

Conclusion: who should buy which?
Take the iPhone 15 if you are after the best value for money. In everyday use it can do practically everything the 16 can, and refurbished it is significantly cheaper.
